Nominator's project description
| Professor Dr. Matilde Marcolli and her co-authors work between mathematics and physics along three main driections: 1) The construction of invariants of 3-manifold using gauge theory, originally a theory of electroweak and strong interactions of elementray particles. 2) A model of the quantum Hall effect, where quantization of the conductance at rational multiples of a basic quantity is explaned in terms of negatively curved surfaces with singularities determined by finite group actions. 3) Relations between chaotic dynamical systems, number theory, the Mixmaster Univers in general relativity, and non-commutative geometry. |
